A Multiple Choice Test Application
jTest is an online multiple choice test application. jTest is designed to run on the intranet of any school or educational institution.
What will it do for me?
jTest will dramatically decrease your workload when it comes to grading tests. In fact, for multiple choice tests or multiple choice exams jTest will totally an completely do away with any grading. You will find yourself setting more and more multiple choice tests and less and less of any other kind. If grading tests is not your preferred activity, jTest is for you.
How does it work?
Once jTest has been deployed, one opens a browser window (FireFox, MS Internet Explorer or similar) and type the address of the server into the address field. jTest comes with a default user. Enter the username and password and one is taken to the administrative area. Create users (teachers/lecturers) and remove the default user.
The teachers/lecturers can now log in and
- enter students
- set up multiple choice tests
No special software is needed on any of the computers from which students take the multiple choice tests or teachers/lecturers set up multiple choice tests. jTest runs in any browser window.
A multiple choice test is made loadable by the teacher/lecturer before it is to be taken. Students log in with a personal code only, no password. The student then enters the multiple choice test code to load the test. The multiple choice test will only load if it has been set as loadable and the student is enrolled for the subject of the multiple choice test.
Each multiple choice test consists of any number of questions with any number of possible answers for each question. Only one answer per question is correct. When a multiple choice test is negatively graded (a mark or fraction of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer), the last possibility is always Pass. The negative mark can be any fraction from 0 to 1, both included. This is set by the teacher who sets the multiple choice test. If the student selects Pass he will get neither any positive nor any negative marks for that question.
When the student has finished his multiple choice test he clicks the "Submit" button. A javascript confirm box alerts him to the fact that submission is final. If he then decides to submit, the multiple choice test is submitted, graded and his results displayed to him.
The results as well as every response to every question by every student is available to the teacher/lexturer at any time.
Multiple choice tests belong to subjects, e.g. Sci10 (Science for year 10). All multiple choice tests belonging to a certain subject can be displayed for any or all students taking that subject. This is done between two dates. Each multiple choice test can be assigned a weight. When an average of a certain number of multiple choice tests in one subject is obtained, this weighting is taken into account if the weight of the group of tests add up to 100 and there are no non-weighted tests in the group. The teacher can also select to have a non-weighted average displayed, even if all criteria for a weighted average are fullfilled.
Very detailed results for a single multiple choice test for a single student can also be displayed, as well as results for all students in one class for all multiple choice tests in one subject between any dates.
Using iReport one can generate reports only limited by one's imagination and prowess. These reports can be about test results and the multiple choice tests themselves.
The possibilities are overwhelming.
